Automatic on Terceira — and just how scarce it is.
Almost everything in the Azores is a manual. If you have never driven one, a mountain road is the wrong place to start. Here are the categories we run with an automatic gearbox — and how many cars there are of each.
Scarce, and we can put a number on it
6 of the 84 cars in our fleet have an automatic gearbox. That is not a sales line, it is a count: once they are gone, they are gone. In peak season they are routinely taken weeks ahead. Our automatic categories
Every category is exactly one model — you get what is listed here, not ‟or similar”.

Terceira's roads are narrow, twisty and steep — with an unfamiliar gearbox every junction turns into an exercise.
Visitors from the United States and Canada almost always learned on an automatic. In Portugal that is the exception.
An automatic cannot be ordered at the desk. Either one is standing there, or it isn't.
Lock in an automatic early.
